Business Intelligence Third Application Management project

Description:

Business intelligence third party application management project that covers 20 intelligence applications.This reffers to the outsourcing of a part of the maintenance of applications to a third-party computer service provider by defining the levels of availability, deadlines, and quality.

Technical components:

• Various operating systems of the organization aliment the datawarehouse. All the data is integrated (using C Scripts, Unix Shells) and checked for integrity (using Datastage)
• The data is transformed and modeled(Cognos Transformer), multidimensional cubes are often calculated (OLAP modeling)
• Reporting tools (Cognos Powerplay and Impromptu) make the data available for analysis to the users
• Databases and operating systems: Oracle 8i, UNIX 11.11

Project management model:

The model used was one iterative and incremental. The following phases were delimited:

• Knowledge transfer – trainings to get to know the applications and the tasks to perform with the help of the applications’ experts.
• Maintenance of the applications and development of new features.
• Reversibility phase or re-transferring the knowledge.

As a BI developer, these were my activities :

• added new functionalities and optimized datawarehouse extracted data by creating, UNIX and SQL scripts.
• created and modeled Cognos reports(Powerplay and Impromptu) and OLAP cubes
• Performed datamining on large data sets in order to verify or explain to the user the results of the treatments
• created testing scenarios and executed unit testing as well as integration tests for large sets of data
• provided functional and technical user support
• managed user access to the BI data marts
• analyzed and classified user requests(application issues or enhancements) via ticket analyzing application
• provided estimates for application enhancements
• launched datawarehouse treatment jobs on user request
